The Trip for Life: The Monolithic Dome Institute Part 1 and 2

The latest episode is about monolithic domes; what they are, what benefits they confer, and how to build them. It is centered around an extensive interview with David South, president and founder of the Monolithic Dome Institute. This technology is really cool, and it could save the future in many different ways if widely implimented.

And here is part two:

Domes may be a key to cheap, complete infrastructure for the global south.

Be sure to check the Monolithic Dome Institute web site for lots of information about everything I've talked about here, and tons of great pictures and stories from the people who have chosen to build with the technology.

Webmaster: I love spam, because I love breaking your links and mocking you. Please, do continue.

Aaron, what a cool project this is and major kudos for spotlighting the Monolithic Dome and interviewing David South. I've been visiting their website (which is how I discovered your site) for at least 5 years and your videos are some of the best I've seen on Domes - including MDI's own stuff. It's awesome that you show the latest developments like the basalt rebar and discuss the grow domes. Funny but true comment about the LED lights. So frustrating that more people can't get over their view that domes are too weird/strange/odd/eccentric-looking to seriously consider one for their next home. It will probably take several famous people to own and endorse the design or some wealthy visionary to create all-dome neighborhoods for the paradigm shift to happen in our thinking. Though not a current dome owner, I'll live in one someday and can dream that domes will catch on this century. Keep up the good work!
